• High Adventure Volunteer Facilitator Request Form

  • Use this survey to request facilitators for high adventure activities on GSCNC properties.

This survey should only be used to attempt to secure High Adventure Facilitators for Archery, Canoeing, Kayaking, Tomahawks/Knives, Slingshots, and the Camp White Rock Low Ropes course for troop or service unit events on Council operated properties. Please also use additional channels to try and secure your own facilitator, such as attending a training, posting on Rallyhood, or reaching out to your Service Unit.

We cannot guarantee that a facilitator will be available for your reservation. Because of this, we do not recommend relying entirely on this survey to find facilitators for your large group event such as a Service Unit Encampment.

    Please follow the steps below:

    • Reserve the high adventure activity prior to completing this survey.
    • If you reserve a high adventure activity and are unable to secure a facilitator before your reservation, we will cancel your reservation and refund you the cost.

This survey is pulled once a week. Once we receive your request we will send you a confirmation email. Once per week, we will email the volunteer facilitators trained in your activity. If you have any questions please contact highadventure@gscnc.org.

Please note: Paid facilitators are provided with reservations of the high ropes challenge courses at Camp White Rock and Camp Crowell on select weekends throughout the spring, summer, and fall.

For more information about what high adventure activities are available at each camp, please visit http://www.gscnc.org/en/camp/high-adventure/high-adventure.html. Please contact highadventure@gscnc.org with any additional questions.

  • Instructor-to-Participant Ratios

  • Depending on the activity you would like to do and the age and number of girls participating, you will need to follow specific instructor-to-participant ratios as listed in the Girl Scouts Safety Activity Checkpoints. Please review the different ratios below to determine how many trained facilitators you will need for your activity:

Archery: 1:5 for Brownies, 1:10 for Juniors and older on the firing line (i.e. actively shooting at one time)
Canoeing: 1:6, OR 1:12 with a qualified assistant (see below for more details)
Kayaking: 1:5, OR 1:10 with a qualified assistant (see below for more details)
Tomahawks: 1:2*, with one qualified assistant (see below) for every 2 additional participants
*this number refers to participants on the throwing line. Those waiting outside the range do no count towards this ratio.
White Rock Low Ropes: 1:10 for Brownies, 1:12 for Juniors and older, OR 2:20 for all ages.
Slingshots: 1:5 for Daisies and Brownies, 1:10 for Juniors and older on the firing line (i.e. actively shooting at one time)

A "qualified assistant" is an adult who is competent in the activity the group is participating in and must be able to assist the facilitator
with instructing and keeping the group safe. They do not have to be certified in the activity, and can be an adult member of your troop that fits the description above.

Please keep in mind for kayaking and canoeing that if your group is paddling on moving water the qualified assistant must have experience and competence paddling on the class of water you will be on.
